The 2 most common questions XP Deus users ask are:
“What Is the deepest Deus setting” and “How do I detect deep targets”.There have been many articles written in the past addressing the subject of depth, but none are conclusive, and they never will be, simply because there’s no black and white answer. Very often the operators experience and patience can determine the difference between success and failure
What is the deepest Deus setting
What would you consider to be a deep target?, you need to start by setting some realistic parameters, what would you consider to be good achievable depths on different types of targets, for example small coins, jewellery, large items such as coin hoards and militaria.Do you want to determine the difference between Ferrous or non-ferrous?….. As you can see the depth question is not as simple as you may have originally thought !
How do I detect deep targets
Your XP Deus can be set to find large deep targets, and small deep targets providing your depth expectations are realistic.
Search coil choice and frequency can play a very important part when hunting for a specific target. When hunting for large deep targets with the XP Deus the preferred coil choice is the X35 11” or the larger X35 11 x 13.The XP Deus has a dedicated “All Metal” mode and is ideal for this kind of work, All Metal has always been a very popular choice with specialist searchers, however recently we have recently seen a growing number of specialist hunters using Deus program 10 Goldfield to their advantage.
Some search scenarios do not warrant hunting for single coins, the preferred target is a large deep single item of mass.
Our Greek distributor John Kyritsis from Kyritsis Metal Detectors is a highly respected Deus user and is an expert at applying these techniques, you can see his video demonstrating how the XP Deus using the Goldfield program easily locates a WWII ammunition box at 1.5m. (The video has English subtitles)Johns suggested Goldfield settings are :
Reactivity: 0
Threshold: 2
Sens: 99
Expert: Gain 3 Freq: 7,7 KHz (or you can experiment with 3,7 KHz for your ground).
Any settings not mentioned are presumed to be factory default. The coil must be held at least 20 cm above the ground when searching. The coil sweeps must be wide and fast. Ground Balance should be made periodically by lowering the coil to the ground surface and pressing the Pinpoint key to grab/update the ground value.
